I’ve read Feehan’s Dark series, Ghostwalker series, and Shadow Rider series so I was hopeful when reading Judgement Road (which is the official start of the Torpedo Ink books). If you want the first book with a member of Torpedo Ink (Czar and his love interest Blythe), you’ll need to read Bound Together from the Sea Haven series. I loved the premise and the idea of the whole series, but I felt that the execution was a bit lacking in some areas. Please make sure you check out the content warning list at the end of the review before reading this book so you don’t go in unprepared. 

The Torpedo Ink books are undoubtedly dark and deal with difficult subjects. The torture and abuse that the members of the club were subjected to in the “school” in Russia have left their mark on them permanently. It was emotional to see how much they’ve bonded together and become closer as a result. Their devotion to each other is quite literally inked into the skin of their backs. At first glance, this might seem like it’s simply a dark motorcycle club romance book, but Ms. Feehan threw incorporated paranormal elements (similar to her other series). All of the members of Torpedo Ink have special abilities that usually relate to their nicknames (the special abilities enabled them to survive the torture they endured at the school in Russia, and enable them to save others in present-day who are suffering from similar situations). 

One thing I liked about the other series was how the members of each pairing are flawed or challenged, but they grow together. I didn’t really see that as much with Reaper and Anya. Their relationship didn’t feel balanced. I would recommend this book to mature fans of paranormal romance, who love the motorcycle club sub-genre and the found family trope.
