VALENTINE
After almost three centuries of running from my past, I should be used to loneliness. Being a mythological monster isn’t compatible with relationships. But the craving for company grows stronger every day, turning routine into an endless nightmare and making me wish for an end to my immortality.
The explosive encounter with a beautiful, lethal fae who knows what I am and
how to destroy me reminded me of that proverb: be careful what you wish for.
AXEL
I thought fate could not surprise me after almost six hundred years. And then
there she is—the echo of the brave young woman I’ve heard legends about. Only
she isn’t human anymore, but a vampire, the greatest enemy of my species. After
a fight that could have killed us both, and an uneasy truce, I am left with
burning curiosity and so is she.
But will curiosity be enough to quench her thirst for my blood and my impulse
to kill her before she strikes?
The first installment of the Bonded by Blood and Magic series.

How does one describe Huntress Prey by Selene Kallan best? Is it urban fantasy or paranormal romance? Yes to both!
Fans of Linsey Hall or C.N. Crawford should enjoy this book. While some urban fantasy and paranormal romance books have only one-half of the couple be supernatural, I appreciate the unique nature of how both Axel and Valentine were supernatural. It removed the possibility of arguments over differences in lifespan, given that both of them have lived for centuries. “Difference in lifespan” is a hard-to-execute dynamic, in my opinion. I enjoyed it between Arwen and Aragorn in The Lord of the Rings. I did not, however, enjoy it between Bella and Edward in Twilight (it might have also been because Bella was too much of a damsel in distress and whiny). Axel and Valentine also don't have to worry about hiding their supernatural natures from each other.
The amount of action compared to the length was not enough in my opinion. More action would have helped the downtime in the book not feel like it was dragging as much. I recognize this is a personal preference though, and others might feel differently.
Even when Axel and Valentine hated each other, the tension was palpable and I was all here for it. For those who enjoy picking books to read by trope, this is 100% an enemies-to-lovers romance. I would categorize this book as new adult with regards to audience level (so not necessarily suitable for the average young adult reader).
Overall, a dynamic paranormal romance read. I will definitely be checking out future books in the Bonded by Blood and Magic series. Thank you to the author and Jaime at Rockstar Book Tours for sending me a complimentary review copy of the book as part of my participation in the blog tour. I appreciate the opportunity immensely.

About Selene Kallan:
Selene
Kallan is a fantasy author who daydreams about her imaginary worlds most of the
time. Her obsession with vampires, and all things supernatural, has made her an
avid reader. She loves writing, discovering new metal bands, and watching
superhero movies. She is also feeling a little crazy while writing about herself
in third person, but apparently, this is the way to go.
