In my opinion, dragons always make a story better. As soon as I read the blurb and saw the cover for Elyzabeth Trickey’s The Final Rider, I knew I had to read the book. Readers who pick this up can expect an imaginative world, great characters, and fantastic action.

Great worldbuilding is a must in fantasy books, and The Final Rider has that. The author did a great job bringing readers into the world of her imagination. All the descriptions were vivid and easy to picture. In addition to the dragon, there are also witches, witch hunters, and monsters to deal with. Altogether, there are lots of elements in the book that made my fantasy-loving heart quite happy.

I enjoyed the contrast between Hazel and Alastriona. Hazel was born to a relatively simple life and lower-class family. Her bond with the dragon (and the discovery of said dragon) propelled her into the spotlight. Alastriona, on the other hand, was born into power as a princess. When we meet her, she’s in relative exile and leading her people in the Wastelands. I’m always excited when an author creates characters that are likable (who you want to see achieve their goals), and Ms. Trickey did exactly that with Hazel and Alastriona. It’s even more exciting that fate seems to have set Hazel and Alastriona on opposite sides.

If you’re a fan of Eragon, How to Train Your Dragon or Blazewrath Games, then you should definitely check out The Final Rider. I would recommend the book to young adult fantasy readers and dragon fanatics. For those who are considering this book for a young reader in their life, please note there are no intimate scenes and minimal bad language to worry about.

Thank you to the author for providing me with a complimentary review copy! I appreciate the opportunity to read the book immensely. Please note - I voluntarily read and reviewed The Final Rider; all opinions of the book expressed in this review are my own and not influenced in any way.

About the Author

Elyzabeth is a simple farm girl, growing up on her mother’s fiber farm in rural Illinois where she’d spend hours hand-feeding the sheep as a child. During this time, she was raised on a steady diet of The Lord of the Rings, Pirates of the Caribbean, and Disney princess movies, cultivating her obsession with fantasy. Now she still lives at the farmhouse with two spoiled dogs, two bratty cats, and an excess of books and candles. When she’s not reading or writing, she likes to spend her free time playing video games, picking up random hobbies, and trying to buy the love of her cats with cuddles.
