'A Fantasist in the Real World': Guest Post by Karina McRoberts

As an author who concentrates on fantasy and paranormal themes, people have said that I am not realistic.  Well, duh.  A great compliment!

However, it’s not true.  Most of my fiction contains references to real-world events, both past and present.

I was recently asked to contribute to a collection of prose focusing on the experience of women in the Ukraine war.  Although I have never been to that once-beautiful part of the world, I have Ukrainian friends, who so kindly added to a theatre production of my historical fiction novel, the Palace of the Stars.

The Roztiazhka Ukrainian Cossack Dancers were a big hit with our audience in the two years pre-Covid that we were able to run the show.  The book and the show, A Night at the Palace of the Stars, have a peace-through-music theme.  Fictional character JT Gordon, the entrepreneur of the Palace of the Stars, is the staunchest advocate of musical peace. And so am I.  As a musician who’s traveled, I know.  If you would like to view one of Roztiazhka’s astounding performances, click here:

I doubt Putin listens to any of the gorgeous Ukrainian music.  If he did, how could he possibly commit these horrendous atrocities against these fine people???  I asked him to listen.  He didn’t reply.  But you can listen to this – it’s heart-filling.
