I got excited when I was notified that one of my recent favorite authors L.L. Frost was releasing a new book (or rather, a partial book in the form of a serial). I absolutely loved their Succubus Harem series and had high hopes going into the first of the A Curse of Blood serials. Unfortunately, the beginning was a bit rough and I was left with mixed feelings.

In L.L. Frost’s Succubus Harem series, it totally makes sense that the main character (a succubus) and her love interests (major demons) will become intimate fairly quickly because of the nature of succubi. However, I was left scratching my head when Rowe and Sheriff Haut gave in to their urges in less than 50 pages. Little to no sexual tension to be explored? No witty banter or sarcastic remarks to serve as foreplay? I was also put off by how aggressive and threatening the sheriff was during their first meeting - Rowe doesn’t seem to be able to get over her immediate attraction in order to object to what he’s doing (which would throw up major red flags for me).

Ultimately, a very average storyline that left me confused and questioning. I recognize that I’m not a big fan of serials in general though, so I will reserve full judgment until when the full book is out and I can read the story in its entirety.
